Segafredo Storia – Experience the story behind your coffee

Segafredo Storia is a responsibly produced coffee range developed at Meira's Vallila roastery in Finland. The coffee beans can be traced back to their original farm using block chain technology. By scanning the QR code on the package, the consumer is able to track the entire route of the coffee from the bush to Meira Vallila roastery, in Helsinki.

Segafredo Storia is a responsibly produced coffee range developed at Meira's Vallila roastery in Finland. The coffee beans can be traced back to their original farm using block chain technology. By scanning the QR code on the package, the consumer is able to track the entire route of the coffee from the bush to Meira Vallila roastery, in Helsinki.

Top-quality Segafredo Storia coffee comes from 51 selected family farms in the Lempira and Intibuca regions of Honduras. It is a premium level, 100 % Arabica Organic coffee with just the right amounts of acidity and fruitiness. A touch of chocolate flavour has been added by roasting.

All types of coffee with just one product

The Segafredo Storia coffee range includes dark roasted filter coffee and espresso coffee. In addition to espresso, beans with a dark level of roast (4), also make a delicious dark filter coffee. The grounded filter coffee in the series has a medium degree of roasting (3).

Pioneering traceability – coffee origins with a QR code

Consumers are increasingly interested in the origin of the products they buy and want to make responsible choices. Segafredo Storia coffee is a responsible choice. As well as organic certification, they have Rainforest Alliance certification and a fully transparent supply chain.

The responsibly produced Segafredo Storia coffee range provides the customer with an opportunity to view the journey of the coffee from South American coffee fields to Finland to Vallila roastery in Helsinki with the help of block chain technology.

Tracking is done via a QR code. The code illustrates, for example, information about the coffee bush variety, the place where it is grown and which farms have produced it. On interactive map, the application also shows the distance the coffee is from the cultivation area, on through the processing plants to the transportation by ship, and then to the Meira roastery in Vallila, Helsinki.

Domestic coffee enjoyed around the world

Segafredo Storia coffees are a Finnish innovation. They are roasted at Meira in Vallila with Finnish know-how and professionalism. Through the network of the Massimo Zanetti Beverage coffee group, Meira's owner, they are marketed in Finland as well as several other European countries and beyond. Meira is the first company in Finland to introduce block chain technology in the monitoring of the coffee production chain.

What is blockchain technology?

A block chain is a database that allows its users to view the full amount of data covered by the entire chain at once, and observe changes in it in real time. It can be described as a kind of public accounting system that can only be edited by a limited number of users, but can be viewed by almost anyone.

Block chain technology is well suited to tracking and documenting vertical supply chains in the food industry. It can improve the transparency of the production chain, and thus provide consumers with reliable and traceable information in, for example, the production of coffee.
